Full System Closure December 14–15

SMART will temporarily suspend passenger service on December 14–15 to allow for essential Systems Testing in preparation for the opening of the new SMART Petaluma North station. During this time, the entire SMART rail line and all SMART Connect shuttles will be out of service.

We regret any inconvenience this closure may cause. After careful consideration, we determined that implementing bus bridges would not reliably serve our riders due to significant delays and longer travel times. Temporarily suspending service, with advance notice to riders, is the most efficient and least disruptive approach, allowing us to complete the necessary testing swiftly while minimizing overall service impact.

Alternative Transit Routes

Apps such as the Transit app, Google Maps, or Apple Maps can help you plan a trip using alternate transit routes. Golden Gate Transit offers bus service connecting Sonoma and Marin counties to San Francisco. SMART Customer Service agents are available Monday–Friday from 8 AM–5 PM, to assist you with trip planning at (707) 794-3330 or via email at customerservice@sonomamarintrain.org.

Train Horns During System Testing

Despite Quiet Zones ordinances restricting the use of train horns, the Federal Railroad Administration requires the use of horns and bells during rail Systems Testing. As a result, trains utilized for the systems testing will sound their horns and bells intermittently in the Petaluma and Penngrove areas. We apologize for any inconvenience and are taking steps to minimize noise disruptions while maintaining safety as our top priority for everyone in the area.

Opening of the Petaluma North Station

Todd Road Temporary Closure

During this temporary system closure, we are also taking the opportunity to make improvements at the Todd Road rail crossing in Santa Rosa. On Friday, December 13 from 10 PM until 10 PM on Sunday, December 15, a section of Todd Road will be closed to all vehicular traffic to allow for necessary railroad crossing improvements and resurfacing.
